Sugar Land's Animal Shelter

Every day, animals in Sugar Land rely on us for safety, care, and a second chance. But the shelter meant to provide that care was never designed for the community we've become. With your help, we can change that—starting now.  **A New Chapter for Animal Care in Sugar Land**  The Sugar Land Legacy Foundation, in partnership with the City of Sugar Land, has launched a capital campaign to build the City’s new Animal Shelter, creating a modern, humane, and community-centered facility that reflects our values.  Approved by voters through the 2019 and 2024 G.O. Bond Election, the new shelter will replace the City’s current facility. But with your support, we can go further, delivering critical enhancements that elevate care, save more lives, and better serve our growing community.   The Animal Services staff and Animal Advisory Board identified enhancements beyond the bond-funded scope.  This campaign exists to bring those elements to life and take the project from functional to exceptional.   **Why This Matters Now**  Sugar Land’s current animal shelter was never designed to meet today’s needs.  Originally built as a series of disconnected buildings, it was designed to house approximately **27 dogs and 54 cats**. Today, demand has far outpaced that capacity.  Just this past summer, the shelter averaged **132 animals at a time,** more than double what it was built to support.  This level of overcrowding creates serious challenges:  ·       Increased stress and behavioral decline in animals   ·       Higher risk of illness and disease transmission   ·       Limited space for recovery, quarantine, and adoption  Behind every number is an animal waiting for care—and a community counting on us to do better.  **What the New Shelter Will Deliver**  The new Animal Shelter represents a transformational investment in animal welfare and public service.  With enhanced funding support, the facility will include:  ·       Capacity for **up to 50 dogs and 80 cats**   ·       A **dedicated surgical and recovery suite** for on-site spay/neuter procedures   ·       A **compliant rabies quarantine pod** to ensure public safety   ·       **Modern environmental systems** to improve health, air quality, and comfort   ·       Flexible community spaces for adoption events, vaccine clinics, foster program expansion, and humane education.  This is more than a building, it’s a comprehensive approach to lifesaving care and community connection.  **Your Impact**  Private support through the Sugar Land Legacy Foundation will directly fund enhancements that elevate this project from functional to exceptional.  Your gift will help:  ·       Reduce overcrowding and improve animal outcomes   ·       Expand access to affordable veterinary services   ·       Increase adoption and foster opportunities   ·       Create a welcoming space for community connection and education   Together, we can build a facility that not only meets today’s needs but sets the standard for compassionate care in the region.  **Make a Difference**  This is a rare opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in Sugar Land.  By supporting the Animal Shelter Capital Campaign, you are investing in:  ·       Healthier animals   ·       Safer neighborhoods   ·       A more compassionate community   **Join us in bringing this vision to life.**
